The short answer: you can't submit your brand to ChatGPT — there's no form, no fee, no index request. ChatGPT names brands that (a) appear consistently across the web content it was trained on, and (b) show up in the live web results it retrieves while answering. Both are influenceable. Neither is instant.
Why there's no direct route
ChatGPT's brand knowledge comes from two places. Its base model learned associations from training data — years of web pages, reviews, articles, and forum threads. And when a question benefits from current information, it searches the web and reads the top results before answering (retrieval-augmented generation).
OpenAI doesn't sell placement in either channel. The only way in is to become the kind of brand the data and the search results already point to.
The levers, in order of speed
1. Be retrievable today (days to weeks)
- Allow the crawlers. Check that
GPTBot(training) andChatGPT-User/OAI-SearchBot(live answers) aren't blocked in your robots.txt. Blocked AI crawlers mean guaranteed absence from the fast lane. - Publish pages that answer the question. When ChatGPT searches "best accounting software for freelancers", it reads and synthesizes what ranks. A direct, factual, comparison-honest page about exactly that question can be read and cited within days of being indexed.
- Mark up your facts. Structured data — Organization, Product, FAQPage — makes your name, category, and claims machine-certain.
2. Be present where ChatGPT looks (weeks to months)
For commercial questions, engines lean heavily on third-party comparison and review content. Getting included in the listicles, review sites, and community threads that rank for your category's queries usually moves the needle more than anything on your own domain. This is digital PR with an AI-shaped target list: study which sources ChatGPT cites for your prompts, then earn your way into those specific pages.
3. Build the long-term association (quarters)
Models remember brands that the web talks about consistently. Sustained coverage, reviews, an unambiguous entity (entity SEO), and presence in reference sources compound into the kind of category association that surfaces even when ChatGPT answers from memory. New model versions retrain on a fresher web — each release is a chance for your improved footprint to become "known."
Measure before and after
AI answers vary by day, phrasing, and engine, so spot-checking one chat proves nothing. Fix a panel of the questions your buyers actually ask, run them on a schedule across ChatGPT and its peers, and track your mention rate as you ship changes. That loop — the core of measuring AI visibility — is what Brandflare automates, starting with a free audit that shows where you stand today.
