BYD Company Limited is a Chinese multinational manufacturer headquartered in Pingshan District, Shenzhen, founded in February 1995 by Wang Chuanfu and Lu Xiangyang as a rechargeable-battery maker before entering the automotive business in 2003. It is now the world's largest producer of new energy vehicles (battery-electric and plug-in hybrid), having sold about 4.6 million NEVs in 2025, and also operates in traction batteries and grid storage, electronics assembly, semiconductors, electric buses and commercial vehicles, and rail transit. BYD is unusually vertically integrated — designing and building its own LFP Blade Battery, power electronics and chips — which underpins its low-cost positioning. It stopped producing internal-combustion-only cars in April 2022 and sells through a tiered brand matrix (Dynasty and Ocean for mainstream, Denza and Fang Cheng Bao for premium and off-road, Yangwang for ultra-luxury). BYD is dual-listed in Hong Kong (1211) and Shenzhen (002594) and does not sell passenger cars in the United States.
